Twelve delegates from Nanjing Foreign Language, BCA achieved excellent results at the Model United Nations University of Chicago (MUNUC) competition in mid-December 2024. The delegates participated in three different committees (Ad hoc, FDA, UNESCO, UNHRC) at the Shanghai Foreign Language School in Shanghai and won three individual awards together but the whole delegation won the prestigious “Outstanding Delegation” award. Joyce Zhang from Grade 10A as the Bolivian delegate, Bright Wei in Grade 10A as the Azerbaijani delegate and Lucky Li in Grade 10 as the Belize delegate made a big splash at the UNESCO committee, presenting unique Draft Resolutions and rigorous working papers together with students from all over the country.

During the competition, delegates were active in debates and speeches of all sizes; strengthening their English-speaking skills as well as their skills in public speaking, motivation and academic researching; Bright Wei demonstrated his composure and courage in times of crisis by participating in academic debates when his ideas were different from the majority.

The BCA MUN club gained great opportunities for personal development during this event. The club leader, Eric Li, was delighted that the BCA's MUN club received an invitation to join the Shanghai MUN Club’s Union, and this has helped establish close friendships with schools such as the International Department of Shanghai High School (SHSID). Our club is also planning to take part in the Oxford University MUN Competition in April, and we continue to hope to be able to add another splash of excitement to BCA soon. Our club sponsors, Ms. Karunyasopon, Mrs. Lone and Mr. Hernandez have supported this initiative at BCA to provide real opportunities for BCA students to gain a more holistic education.
