BCA at the World Scholar's Cup

Created on:2025-03-03

Recently, BCA joined the World Scholar’s Cup (WSC) Shanghai Regional Round where we show cased exceptional skills in debate, writing, and general knowledge.

The World Scholar’s Cup is an international academic program that brings students together from all corners of the globe to celebrate the joy of learning, collaboration, and critical thinking. The WSC challenges students to explore interdisciplinary topics, sharpen their debating and writing skills, and engage in team-based competition. Participants delve into an annually rotating theme that spans across various disciplines such as history, science, literature, social studies, and more. Beyond the academic challenges, the WSC is renowned for its engaging events, such as the Scholars Bowl, Collaborative Writing, and Debate.

Through this experience we were able to progress in English skills, especially oral speaking, and collaboration. With the three rounds of debate, from the nervous and stuttering first round to the confident and fluent last round, we improved with great speed and efficiency. While preparing for the debate, we worked closely together and learned how to cooperate to reach the same goal.

At the same time, we also gained more experience in writing a variety of essays. During the Collaborative Writing session, we explored different topics in Social Studies and Technology. We composed various genres of works spanning from academic essays to even a 14-line-poem.

Representing BCA, we won the following awards (including team prizes and individual prizes):
In total: 63 medals were won

Gold: 25
Silver: 36
Trophy: 2
We were proud of our very first experience competing against over 200 schools. We were successfully placed in the following categories overall in the competition:

  • 2nd place debater; 3rd place writer; 3rd place team writing; and came 6th place as overall scholar’s team.

After the journey and experience we both celebrated and reflected on what we could do to improve in the future. Many of us acknowledged the importance of studying the syllabus before joining the competition and the essential skill of expressing our thoughts in a clear and logical manner. We believe that in future similar activities we will be able to make more progress and achieve even greater results. The following were the main participants from Grade 10:
